Sign Tips

Beautiful is nice, artsy is nice, but don't make a sign out of it!  You have usually less than 10 seconds to get your message across, don't make it hard to read.

Want artsy - use logo or graphic to catch the persons eye, then make your company name & phone number large and easy to read.  Don't use the art part for your name and phone number.  If your name is in your logo, also add it separate because usually it's too small to read anyway.

What do you do? Don't forget to tell people what you do, I see a lot of nice signs and vehicle letters, but I do not have a clue as to what the company does.

Colors - are very important they must contrast as much as possible to be able to read them at a distance and quickly.

Vehicles - DON'T FORGET THE BACK, think about it, which part of the vehicles do you see the most of going down the road and parked in driveways or parking lots.  You can put a magnetic sign on the back too.  HOW ABOUT THE FRONT?  We letter windshield and hoods also for the same reason

Logos and colors - pick them wisely and use the same combination on all your signs, trucks, yard signs, adds, letterheads, web sites, etc. ect. ect.   Look at your large corporations, most you can recognize by their logos at a glance.

Did you wonder why large corporations with expensive art departments use very few colors - well they cost money - every additional color adds 30-50% to your cost of signs, printing, etc.  Try having a "full color" flyer printed.

You should use at least two colors on a sign, one color signs tend to blend all together.  Can’t afford two color - reverse print part of your sign - usually the phone number - in this I mean instead of the letters being the color you use, make a box, circle, rectangle etc and the letters will be the background color.
